Risen is much shorter and more focused, and some minor quest bugs sort of ruin a bit of the fun, but the combat is much better. With the Master Sword you do 130 total damage for the cost of 60 DEX (120 damage + 10 STR), which compares to the 120 damage for the cost of 60 STR (60 damage + 10 STR), and with a high DEX
It gives you an appreciation for taking the time to think about how you're going to allocate them. It also makes re-plays more enjoyable because you get better at them.
