Taken more than a few Ubers and cabs in Chicago. Uber has typically been 2/3 to 3/4 of the cost of a yellow cab trip. The only time an Uber has been consistently higher has been during surge pricing. Trips from downtown Chicago to ORD or MDW are almost always cheaper with Uber, usually 10-15 bucks.

On Uber, it's $7 for .5 miles and around $11 for 5. To get to Hartsfield, it's $200 vs $100 on Uber. Even with an Uber reservation, it tops out to just $140. Uber could stand to charge people significantly more and still undercut taxi rates and pay their drivers a decent wage. Both Uber and Lyft charge differently. The booking charges are different in different cities. Uber usually costs from $1.85 to $2.45 while this pick-up fee for Lyft ranges between $1 to $2. Lyft has lower booking fees so you can take home more money with each trip on average.

Uber One works best if you’re a regular Uber rider or order a lot of meals using Uber Eats (discounts apply for both). Uber claims users can save up to $27 per month with the membership. 4. Use UberX Share. Formerly Uber Pool, UberX Share riders nationwide can opt to share their trip with other passengers to save money.
At least taxis don’t super inflate their prices. Uber/Lyft use to show you the base rate and then the added surcharge, but now they don’t. Taxis right now will be cheaper than Uber/Lyft at any time of day or night. Guaranteed. PS they like cash. Cash is king to all cab drivers. Something something taxes.

Use 30-Day “Flat-Rate” Packages. If you use Uber often and you live in one of the included major cities, you can purchase a 20 or 40 ride package that makes your ride cost anywhere from $4.49 – $4.99 for uberX and $2.49 to $2.99 for uberPool. The flat price per ride is based on the city but it’s a fantastic deal.

And I know I've chimed in in the comments. But since the pandemic, I've noticed that yellow cabs have been cheaper than Uber or Lyft 99.99% of the time. (I have Uber stock, and no financial stake in yellow cabs so there's no benefit for me in sharing this info other than to help my fellow New Yorkers out).
